There are all sorts of realities around us. Different dimensions. Billions of different parallel universes all stacked one on top of the other, endlessly. A single decision can cause a wrinkle in the fabric between these universes, causing a rift that splits our universe into a spectrum, the good, the evil and everything in between live within that realm. A single faulty resolve can cause us to shift into an unknown universe of mass hysteria.
In the year 1981 the Dark Lord Voldemort swooped upon the Potter house in Godric’s Hollow. He murdered James and Lily Potter before turning upon their one year old child. With knowledge of the full Prophecy, Voldemort decides against murdering young Harry and takes him from the house to be put to work as a slave in his camps.
With the Ministry of Magic firmly in his grasp, Voldemort begins issuing his policy of Pureblood supremacy. Thousands of Muggles are murdered; London has been evacuated by the Muggle Authorities who are, now, fighting back against the Death Eaters with conventional weaponry.
Children are the future- what better reason to indoctrinate them? Hogwarts no longer admits Muggleborns and those that remain must be, or at least pretend to be, supporters of the Dark Lord. Age does not exempt them from their 'duties'.
There is but one bastion of hope. Under Albus Dumbledore the Order of the Phoenix has turned the town of Ottery St Catchpole into a Garrison Town. After several attempts to dislodge the Order, and massive casualties, the Death Eaters have stopped attacking the town, although a large number of border skirmishes happen weekly.
The Purebloods now reign supreme and, with the wizarding economy booming, one wouldn’t suspect that there was anything wrong. The Wizarding District of London has expanded four-fold and seemingly every week there is a high society masquerade or ball. But no society can function purely upon its elite members; there must always be those that are downtrodden.
Even Pureblood Supremacists recognise the need to keep some of the filth alive. Camps have sprung up across the United Kingdom to house Muggles, Mudbloods, Squibs and Bloodtraitors. The Slave Trade is irrevocable- Voldemort’s Society cannot function without it. For the masses, there is menial labour. Some are chosen from the throng to become the personal slaves of Death Eaters; they’ve become quite the status symbol in recent times.
Asking ‘if’ is a test of theory. Implementing it, on the other hand, creates a new world. What if this had happened? Let’s make it more personal. What if you did this? How will you help shape our universe? And how will it affect everyone else and their own inquiry into ‘what if’?
